Nutrient-rich whole foods enter our bodies and pass through a maze of metabolism pathways. Enzymes are extremely efficient molecules that produce usable energy for the body from chemical reactions. There are an infinite number of reactions involved in nutrient metabolism and nutrients both control enzymes and are also acted on by enzymes.

Your body is always working to maintain a stable functional balance which we see as health. The vast array of enzymes work to maintain this balance and rely on resources from the foods we eat. This is why proper nutrition plays an important role in preventing disease and provides all body systems with the nutrients needed for balance.

Nature has included the vitamins, minerals, and supporting characters needed for optimal use by the body in whole foods. While we can isolate all these chemicals in the lab, there is no better source for nutrients than whole, plant-based foods. Vitamin activity from whole food sources are shown to be considerably more potent than an isolated chemical. Nature has evolved to provide nutrient-rich sources that are bigger than the sum of their parts and the body decides how to best use them.

Focus on your eating habits and bring awareness to what you are providing your body as a resource. Ask yourself, “Will this food best support my body to maintain balance?”
